HOFMANN BROMIDE REACTION
When a Primary AMIDE is treated with an
Aqueous or Alcoholic NaOH (SODIUM HYDROXIDE) or KOH (POTASSIUM
HYDROXIDE) solution and BROMINE, it gives a Primary AMINE which has one
CARBON atom less than the original AMIDE.
